THE THREE CITIES

The 3 Cities Auberge is situated in the heart of the historic Three Cities area of Malta, conveniently located a short drive from Malta’s International Airport. The capital city, Valletta, is an exhilarating 10 minute ferry ride across the Grand Harbour, the ferry stop is less than a five minute walk away.. There are some excellent restaurants and bars within a short walk from the 3Cities Auberge and the whole area is steeped in history and culture, making it an ideal base for exploring Malta, and to experience living in a traditional neighbourhood. Here you will find yourself away from the tourist centre and living in the quieter streets of a local community. You will see the fruit and veg van driving around, the gas lorry hooting once a week and local vendors selling bread, cakes and Bigilla (a Maltese speciality dip). The area represents a bygone era, with small family shops, a Tuesday weekly market and Sunday flea market. The local parish church is just down the road, a beautiful Baroque building dedicated to "Maria Immaculata". The church bells chime the hours and you will be surprised how you become so used to them that you do not hear them as you relax into the local way of life. 

 Malta is a great destination, both for city breaks and chill-out sun holidays. The heritage of Malta is breath-taking, from the ancient Megalithic temple remains to the legacy of the Knights of St John, and recently, in 2018, Valletta was celebrated as The European City of Culture.  

The atmospheric streets and baroque churches in Valletta and the Three Cities make for fascinating places to explore, as are the impressive fortifications around the Grand Harbour. Malta has a wealth of museums and galleries, reflecting its historic past. To escape from the city, there are numerous boat trips around Malta and to the smaller islands of Gozo and Comino. 

 The best way to see Malta is to take it easy and lose yourself wandering around the ancient streets and stepped alleyways, allowing you to soak up the history.
